Small, slender warblers with a thin pointed bill, green to grey-green above and pale below, usually with a supercilium and sometimes with wing bars. The sexes are alike and the species differ so little that the simple, much repeated song is in practice the most reliable mark. They are in constant motion through canopy and scrub: gleaning leaves, hovering at a leaf tip, snatching an insect in mid-air. The nest is domed with a side entrance and sits on or just above the ground, even in species that otherwise spend their whole lives high in the trees.
